Hi friends,
It was really a pleasure for us to run the very first peer teaching session today. We hope you enjoyed that 30 minutes. We are very new teachers, so we do need your feedback! Please comment here to let us hear from you. Thank you very much.
Hi Xixi,
ReplyDeleteI have one suggestion for you regarding the peer teaching.I noticed that you always cross your hands and put them in front when you stand. And the watch and bead you are wearing stand out, which is not so nice to look. Maybe next time, you can try to wear them off when you are going to do a presentation.
And thanks for your peer teaching. I definitely gained many useful insights as to how to write effective business letters and emails and in what way we can deliver good and bad messages. Thanks for your hard work!
Hi Xixi,
ReplyDeleteAs i was already telling Elgin and Alvin, i think it was a highly commendable and impressive effort given the time constaint you guys faced as being the first group to present. I'd just like to express my opinions of your group individually before summing up the collective effort.
Xixi - I felt that articulation, posture and most importantly confidence wise you were top notch. Where i think you could improve on, is in voice modulation(just sounded a little soft and fast when emphasising some key points)
Alvin - apt appearance, excellent eye contact with everyone and very humorous(the crossing of legs before interviewing Xixi was especially memorable :P) You did however face a loss of words on some occasions probably due to nervousness which I'm sure can be overcome with practice
Elgin - very jovial, enthusiastic and flexible presentation wise. took in queries graciously, responded immaculately and also able to link the 'thunder effect' with your presentation making it less rigid. I did however remember you mispronouncing 1 or 2 words which I can't recall now sorry. very minor though and probably happens to most.
As a group, I thought the extensive use of visual aids was very relevant to the delivery of content. Cohesiveness between speakers was evident as was the engaging of audience. It did feel a little long though(about 40 mins) and I felt the individual writing up for the good and bad news scenarios could have been better handled. Since it was impossible to give feedback to each of us maybe we should have been grouped, which would have made it easier and more effective when going through each group's response.
It was really hard to pick out the shortcomings of your peer teaching session which really means ya'll have set the bar high. Great job!
Hi Nanhai,
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your suggestions!
I will definitely look into this matter in future.
Xi Xi
Hi Vinod,
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your comments.
It is indeed true that I need to work on voice modulation. I will make some efforts to improve it in future.
We did not realize that we have taken about 40minutes. I guess we really want to cover these three broad topics, so in the end, it ran a bit over the time limit. As for the individual write-up, I am sorry that we did not allocate group discuss time because we simply have very limited time.
Your suggestions are very constructive and insightful. Thank you very much.
Xi Xi
Hi Xixi,
ReplyDeleteConsidering the time constraint u guys have, I think the presentation is very impressive. It's evident that you guys plans a lot for this and probably miss a few hours of sleep at night.
To the individuals,
Xixi - It's not easy to start off the presentation. It has be interesting to capture audiences' attention. Although you are a very confident and articulate, I feel that there's a lack of emotion in the speech. May be it's because the topic itself isn't very interesting. However, your tone could vary and emphasis on certain words. Otherwise, I was a really good effort
Alvin - Very nice dressing and hairstyle. You speak with an enthusiasm and smile which warms the audience, although I could sense a little bit of nervousness while you speak. I really like the part when you were the boss. Nonetheless, the emotion when you were acting is not quite there yet. Probably, it's not the main part of the presentation, so you didn't focus on that.
Elgin - You speak with clarity and cheerfulness. The dressing look professional and appropriate. Another good point is that you pause for questions. This allows the audience to clarify their doubts. However, I think you are a little nervous. I could see you hands shaking when you speak. But don't worry, it happens to everyone. To reduce the nervousness, I think you could practice a little more (I know the time constraint) and speak publicly more often.
In the whole, the presentation style is engaging. The skit was really hilarious, entertaining and, at the same time, educational. This is a perfect example of Edutainment. The powerpoint slides were appropriate with the presentation.
Nonetheless, I agree with Vinod that the write-up could be done in group. In addition, I am not sure whether you have gone through the good news. May be it's because it's always easier to write a good than a bad news, so you spend more time in it. Otherwise, it's a very good presentation. "Two Thumbs Up." hahaha.
Hi XiXi,
ReplyDeleteI felt your group's presentation was fabulous! I definitely did not feel sleepy or bored at all during the whole of the presentation. In fact, I felt very entertained at the different mediums you guys used to present the lesson to us. Kudos to the use of the writing exercise to help us familiarise better with announcing good news and bad news. Great job for the great effort! (:
For Xixi, I felt that you were very confident when presenting your part. You were always looking straight at us, never looking down on the ground. However, there were times when you were talking a little softly. Also, I felt that your presentation could be better if you used more hand gestures to emphasize your points. But anyways, great job! (:
Alvin, I believe I already told you most of my opinions. I felt that you were very clear and loud in your presentation, always emphasizing on important points and bringing out the main ideas clearly. At certain points of time, great use of hand gestures to illustrate your points. However, there were definitely times when you were nervous, especially during your performance in the skit. However, it is still a job well done and full marks for your effort! (:
Elgin, you are very flexible and able to react well to impromptu situations. It is obvious that you are not one who memorises scripts but instead, remember main points and phrase them according to your own flexibility. This is good for public speaking as it makes your presentation less rigid and not seem like you're memorising everything by heart, which makes it easier to relate with the audience. However, I noticed that there were times when you were speaking too quickly. Probably anxious to bring your point across. But these are minor habits which can be removed easily. Great job overall! (:
To the whole group, overall, it was definitely an awesome effort. I was genuinely impressed with the whole presentation, which did not seem like 40 minutes to me! (: However, to improve your presentation, I felt that the transition from speaker to speaker could have been better. There were times when you guys seemed unsure of what to do next. I felt that the slides could have also been slightly more detailed. Other than that, fabulous job! With the limited time given, you guys managed to fulfil everything on the agenda. Well done! (:

ReplyDeleteHi XiXi,
ReplyDeleteFirstly, I would like to congratulate your team for coming up such an awesome peer teaching session. I would like to say that it definitely has both entertainment and educational value. So for that, I would give a high scores for your team if I were to rate your team.
To each of the individuals:
@ XiXi: I liked the way how you frequently maintained eye contact with the audience which i thought was very important if we were to give a presentation. However, what was lacking in your speech was tone and articulation. I felt that there could be variations in tone and volume to make your speech more appealing and lively. Next, better articulation could be adopted as most of your delivery seemed soft and affecting your pronunciation for some words. Gestures could also be used to make your points emphasized. Good job.. :D
@Alvin: I would say that you were clear and loud in your delivery. Important points were emphasized through the use of appropriate hand gestures. However, some things to take note.
At the beginning, your speech seemed shaky and for that moment, I felt like I was listening to a sergeant giving orders to his subordinates. Pardon me for my honest opinion. However, as the speech progressed, you seemed to be getting into the motion of presentation that you became natural in your speech delivery. That was a good thing! There were times where you repeatedly slap against your thigh and it was quite distracting from the audience's point of view. It could be because you felt nervous and unknowingly, such actions came into place. Frequent eye contacts with audience could be make to make your speech more interactive. Well done!
@Elgin: I would say that you made excellant speech deliveries and seemed like those who do not need to memorize manuscripts to deliver speeches. I liked the way how you were natural and were engaging with the audience. However, there were some times where you actually spoke too fast. You were probably too eager to put the point across at that point of time. Nonetheless, those were minor faults and could be rectified easily. Excellent job.. :D
In general, I would like to say that the group had excellent teamwork which could be seen from the well-coordinated speeches and good transitions from one speaker to another. Lastly, your group has set a high benchmark for future presentations. For that, I hope to emulate what your team has done so far with regards to your presentation and ideas in this short peer teaching session and apply it on my upcoming peer teaching session. With the given time limit, the team was able to cover everything on the agenda. SUPERB JOB, WELL DONE!! :D
